Enjoy a guided tour around the evocative ruins of Roman forts at Chesters, Vindolanda, Corbridge or Housesteads and see how soldiers stationed on the north west frontier of the Roman Empire lived, worked and played 2,000 years ago. Make an instant connection with the people of the past as you learn about the world famous Vindolanda Writing Tablets whilst at Chesters fort try and imagine Maximus and his friends enjoying the warmth of the military bath house all those centuries ago.

Combine a visit to a Hadrian’s Wall site with Corbridge village where a range of characterful pubs and cafes offering tasty refreshments await. This attractive village also has boutique and craft shops which may prove just too tempting to resist.
If time allows, the day can also include a visit to historic Hexham Abbey, a living, working church with a compelling historic story.
